Tixkokob Fair 2008: El Tablado
In the Yucatan the centerpiece of every town's annual patron saint fair is la corrida, the bull fight. Tixkocob, like other towns, lacks a permanent bull ring, so each year residents get together and build their tablado from tree limbs, planks, rope, railroad track and banana leaves. About 90 families work together for a week under one foreman to build their own inherited section of a ring famous for being the only one to have three stories.
